Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has lamented the inability of his administration to complete the construction of residential quarters for headmasters across the eight local government areas of the state.

He also expressed regrets about the fact that his government had not been able to build the 25 constituency model boarding schools it initiated.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, during a two-day training programme organised by the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in conjunction with the State’s Ministry of Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Yenagoa, Governor Dickson said that the financial crisis being faced by the state and the entire federation occasioned by dwindling resources was slowing down the pace of development projects.

He however, told the headmasters that the state government had taken delivery of 24,000 new pairs of school uniforms from its suppliers. He said the uniforms and other teaching aides would be distributed schools across the state very soon.

He described teachers as the most important ingredient in the educational system, stressing that his administration would continue to give priority to the provision of quality education and human capacity development.

Dickson also assured the teachers that payment of their salaries and those of other civil servants would be continually treated as first-line charge in the financial obligations of the state despite the lean revenue accruing to the state.

He remarked that the two-day training was a tip of the iceberg as the government intended to organise more of such programmes at periodic intervals.
