Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG), Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, has presented account of his stewardship to Isoko people with a call on Isoko sons and daughters, home and in the Diaspora, to remain united and contribute their quota to the development of Isoko nation.
Addressing a large number of people at Chief James Ekpre Otobo Hall, venue of the event in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government area, amidst songs of solidarity and applause for him by the people, Macaulay commended Isoko people for their support all these years, saying that his love for his ethnic nationality and the desire to transform it has little to do with his involvement in partisan politics and the ultimate quest for votes as “it is an in-born patriotism”.
He said it was necessary to give account of his stewardship tagged, ‘My Stewardship: Facts Behind the Figures’, after 12 years in government.
“I owe my people this duty. One of the basic components of true democratic society is stewardship. This, basically, guarantees accountability as it provides a leader with a medium of presenting his scorecard to the led, who in turn are afforded the right to evaluate the performance of such leader, juxtaposing the relationship between claims and realities.”
He said that his modest achievements and contributions to the development of Isoko nation are conspicuous in the education, health and power sectors, infrastructural and human capital development.
The SSG listed such land mark achievements to include the establishment of Delta State University (DELSU), Oleh campus, donation of N5 million to the university authorities to meet pressing and challenging accreditation needs, renovation of the provosts’ quarter among others, adding that the pace and rate of the development of the Engineering Faculty of the Oleh campus was at his instance.
He paid glowing tribute to Chief James Ibori who spotted his (Macaulay) leadership qualities and invited him to serve in his government in 2003 and appointed him as the Commissioner for Inter-Ethnic Relations and Conflict Resolutions.
Macaulay praised God that through his efforts and other well-meaning Deltans, the Warri crisis which raged for years was brought to an end and peace was finally returned to the then warring ethnic groups as they are now living harmoniously and peacefully with one another.
Macaulay also acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who was then the Secretary to the State Government to his success.
“I had a healthy working relation with Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan who was then Secretary to the Delta State Government under Governor James Onanefe Ibori. As the present Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has demonstrated uncommon affection for me as shown in the quantum of dividends of democracy that are noticeable in Isoko”. In their remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and President-General of Isoko Development Union (IDU), General Paul Omu (rtd), the Chairman of the planning committee, Iduh Amadhe, and others commended Macaulay for his achievements and commitment to the development of Isoko, describing him as a worthy son and an ambassador of Isoko nation.
