THE Otota of Uhurie Kingdom, Olorogun Matthew Ofioguma, has stated that the drive for unity, peace, development and, nearness were among the reasons the Ughievwen clan broke into four kingdoms of Orhohwe, Owahwa, Ukpedi and Uhurie.
Ofioguma, who made this known in a chat with journalists, said the people were happier as love and development became visible in all the four kingdoms of Ughievwen, adding that the split has peacefully uplifted each of the four sub-clans of Ughievwen to kingdoms of their own.
According to him, “before the splitting of the clan into four kingdoms, the entire Ughievwen was too large for one monarch to manage as communities in each of the former sub-clans were larger than some kingdoms in other parts of the state.
“And this situation was seriously causing under-development, disunity, marginalisation, rancour and discrimination among children of one father due to greed, concentration of development in one centre and instead of rotation of the stool among the four children of Ughievwen.”
According to the Otota, in searching for solution, the entire people of Ughievwen nation met and agreed to borrow a leaf from Owhowha which today has four kingdoms of Ogor, Ughelli, Agbarha-Otor and Orogun as children of one father which made peace, unity and development exist in Owhowha clan up to date.
“As you know,” he emphasised, “it is only the people that choose their king, Ughievwen’s four children have chosen their kings and no going back.
“All we are asking from the government is to recognise the kings we have chosen for ourselves and present staff of office to each of them; whether the devil likes it or not, we have chosen our kings and God has also ordained them for us, no going back on this decision because nobody chooses king for the people.”
