A group, Mandate for Good Governance/Leadership (MGGL), has commended security agencies for creating a conducive atmosphere for electorate to exercise their franchise during the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the group, Nelson Newman, particularly commended the Commanding Officer, 222 Battalion, Zone 2 of Sector 1, JTF, Lt. Col. Mathew Oyekola, who led the security agents across the major roads of Ughelli metropolis and over 10 local government areas prior to the elections.
He described their ‘show of force’ as the beginning of fear for ballot snatchers, desperate politicians and their cronies.
Newman explained that the military march in and around Delta State major cities has not only brought relative peace to the 222 Battalion Zone 2 but also brought sanity to all violence prone areas.
He urged the command not to relent in their efforts to create a more conducive and enabling environment for the Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.
While commending the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), vigilance group and other major stakeholders in the march, Newman said the exercise by the security agencies was a brilliant one that has calmed the nerves of both politicians and electorate during and after the elections.
“Without mincing words, l can categorically say this election was one of the most fairest and violence free elections that this area has done since the inception of democracy, where no issue of violence was recorded apart from one or two skeletal one which was also reacted to or calmed with prompt action from the 222 Battalion,” Newman said
