Majority Whip of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. John Obukohwo Nani,
has expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer in this Saturday election, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, will win the poll with a landslide.
The lawmaker also noted that President Goodluck Jonathan conceding victory to General Muhamadu Buhari (rtd) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential election was the sacrifice of a leader who meant well for the country.
Nani, who spoke to newsmen in Jesse, Ethiope West Local Government area, explained that Delta State is the
home of PDP, insisting that there was no way the party will lose the governorship election in the state.
He described Okowa as the best and most qualified candidate with huge credibility who will accelerate the pace of the socio-economic and political development of the state given his massive experience as a man who has seen it all in the corridors of power.
“Okowa is a bridge builder who has built bridges of friendship across ethnic divide in Delta State. He is one detribalized Deltan that everybody has come to love.”
Nani advised Deltans to vote for Okowa in line with the gentleman’s agreement for the rotation of the governorship slot across the three senatorial districts of the state.
He said “in line with the gentleman agreement for rotation of the governorship slot across the three senatorial districts in Delta State, it is logical that the Delta North Senatorial District has the governorship at this material time, since the South and the Central have ruled the state in the last 16 years.
“This is my stand and I think it is also the stand of the majority of Deltans that will vote on April 11.”
Speaking on President Goodluck Jonathan conceding to defeat, the Majority Whip explained that the President did it to save the country from imminent civil war.
He said it was a sacrifice that a leader has to make to keep the country together.
