Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Mr. Charles Emetulu, has tasked the management of Iziso Obos Institute of Maritime Studies and Technology to upgrade the institution to a degree awarding one.
The commissioner, who paid a familiarisation visit to the institution in Warri, expressed delight over the management and facilities on the campus and charged the institution to make efficient use of the academic staff and facilities, adding that the institution has the wherewithal to offer maritime degree courses.
Emetulu stated that the private sector is the mover of the economy and stressed that both government and well to do Nigerians should encourage the private sector to develop the nation’s economy.
He assured the institution of government continued support in its bid to provide middle manpower for the nation. He also urged the management to also seek partnership with the federal, local government councils, Federal Government agencies and non-governmental organisations in the bid to promote the institution.
The rector of the institute, Mr. Charles Araunah, in his address, said the idea behind setting up the maritime institution by Chief Isaac Seide Oyazi was to meet the demand of middle manpower in the nation’s marine sector, and to engage youth of Niger.
