The South-South Peoples Assembly has said that there is need for the people of Southern Nigeria to be in harmony and vote for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan.

_Acting Chairman of the assembly, Idongesit Nkanga, stated this when the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, National Youth Wing, paid him a courtesy visit in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Nkanga said that Jonathan has performed better those who occupied the position in the past, adding that he deserves a second term to consolidate his good work.

He commended the Igbo for throwing their weight and support behind Jonathan, noting that they remain the support base of President Jonathan since 2011 to date.

Nkanga said that among other laudable programmes carried out by the administration, the greatest remained the convocation of a national conference, which addressed the fundamental problems of the country.

“It is very important for the people of southern Nigeria to put aside politics, grievances and unanimously vote for the re-election of President Jonathan because of the gains of national conference when implemented.

“When Jonathan is re-elected, he will among many other things, ensure the implementation of the recommendations of the national conference.” Nkanga said.

Nkanga, who is a former military administrator of Akwa Ibom and currently the director general of Udom/Moses Campaign Organisation, said the All Progressive Congress was not in support of the convocation of National Conference.

“Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has already given the signal that he will not work with the conference recommendations and we of the southern extraction are those who will continue to suffer the fundamental imbalance in Nigeria,” he explained.

He said that the people of Southern Nigeria were suffering because of the parallel politics the Late Chief Nnamdi Azikiwe and the Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo played in their life time and called for unity amongst the southern people of Nigeria.

While commending Ohanaze Ndigbo for endorsing President Jonathan’s re-election bid and the PDP at all levels, he urged other ethnic groups in the South to do the same and massively vote for PDP.

Earlier, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Youth Wing, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, who led the team, said that they were in Akwa Ibom to endorse Akwa Ibom PDP governorship candidate, Mr Udom Emmanuel.

_The President urged Governor Akpabio and PDP family in Akwa Ibom to disregard reports in some quarters suggesting that Ohanaeze Ndigbo endorsed APC in the state, adding that it was handiwork of mischief makers._

Isiguzoro said that the national body was aware of the cordial relationship that exists between the Igbo community and the Akpabio administration, adding that they were optimistic that the Udom will sustain the tempo.

_“The Igbo are peace loving people who believe in the progress of any environment they are doing their business. We consider political parties that have policies which will favour the Igbo wherever they reside._

“We have been briefed on how Governor Godswill Akpabio’s policies have favoured the Igbo residing in Akwa Ibom and we decided to ask them to support Udom who is of the PDP,” hee said.

_While commending Akpabio and his wife Unoma, for their kind gestures towards Igbo residing in Akwa Ibom, Isiguzoro urged the Igbo to ensure they collected their PVCs so as to vote PDP in all the elections
