The aspiration of Elegbete Moses Odibo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Delta State House of Assembly election, Udu constituency, got a boost recently when the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM Owhorhu 1, endorsed him and told Udu people that of all those in the race to represent Udu in the House of Assembly, Odibo is the best material who would best represent the interest of Udu in government.
He called on Udu people, men and women, youth and old to rise and give support to the PDP candidate to ensure he wins the election.
The monarch spoke when the PDP campaign train and Elegbete Barr Moses Odibo Campaign team commenced campaigns in Udu with a visit to the palace of the Ovie of Udu Kingdom to intimate the Ovie in-Council of the intention of Odibo to represent Udu in the House and also to seek royal blessing.
Addressing the people during the visit, the Udu monarch declared that the primary business of the House is lawmaking and that Odibo being the only lawyer among the candidates, stood a better chance to represent Udu, make laws to address the challenges facing the people and promote the interest of Udu in government.
“No doubt, Elegbete Moses Odibo is the best among all those running to represent Udu this year. He is the only lawyer among the candidates and he is most experienced in the business of government.
“If the truth must be said, Odibo is the best of them all. I, therefore, appeal to you to sincerely support him to victory. If you stand firm and support him with all your heart, he shall win. The only thing we ask of Odibo is that he must not forget the people when he gets to Asaba.”
The monarch added, “In and outside government, Elegbete Moses Odibo has worked for Udu. I know how much Odibo has helped to facilitate the process of getting DSC on its feet in the past with appreciable result. He will do it if voted. I can vouch for Odibo on that.
“He is an illustrious son of Udu and Urhobo. Odibo cannot be in the House of Assembly and remain an ordinary member. He is well suited for the best position on offer. I, therefore, appeal to all Udu people irrespective of political parry to support this project to ensure Odibo wins in the interest of Udu.”
Earlier in his speech, Odibo appeal to the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, members of the Traditional Council and all Udu people to consider him for the position of member, representing Udu in the Delta State House of Assembly, promising that while many people will go there to be content with “antelopes and grasscutters”, he will be like “an elephant in the bush and everybody would be well taken care of.
‘’I am here today to seek royal blessing and support for me to go to the House of Assembly and drag home the best for the Udu people. With my level of experience, exposure and attainment politically, I cannot be an underdog in the House of Assembly. I have the requisite contacts and reach to relate with the right and key people who would drive the coming administration. I want this mandate to give Udu the best of representation.
“I am not a man that would be there just to occupy Udu seat and fill the number, earn salaries and wait for the next round of election before coming around. I shall make the difference if voted’’, Odibo assured.
He appealed to the people to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan again, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for Governor, Chief Ighoyota Amori for Senate and Chief Solomon Awhinawhi for House of Representatives so that together, the interest of Udu could be well articulated and promoted.
Odibo assured that a vote for the PDP candidates, on behalf of whom the campaigns were launched, will guarantee a better deal for the Udu people in the next dispensation.
Speaking in the same vein, the Otota of Udu Kingdom, Chief Sam Odibo, who was with the Ovie during the visit, also assured that Odibo, ‘’in all honesty and truth, family sentiments aside, is the best of the candidates. He stands shoulder high above all those running to represent Udu in the House of Assembly. Udu will never regret having Odibo in the House.’’
In his comment at the ceremony, Chairman of the PDP in Udu Local Government Area, Chief Sam Ughwujowhovwo, appealed to the palace to bless all the PDP candidates from Mr President to the PDP candidate for House of Assembly, promising that Udu will benefit immensely from the PDP administration in Nigeria.
Shortly after leaving the palace of the Ovie in Aladja, the campaign team filled out to see President General of the Union of Udu Communities, Chief Steve Sokoh, and members of the UUC executive council where Odibo presented the same message, appealing to Udu leaders to give him the mandate to represent the area in Asaba.
Speaker after speaker at the consultation meeting, eulogised the credentials of the Odibo family, stressing that with Odibo in the House of Assembly, Udu stands a better chance of experiencing progress and development.
In his comment, Chief Steve Sokoh commended Odibo for the courage of taking the challenge to go to the House to halt the improper representation of Udu. He assured that having been specially blessed by the Ovie of Udu, the UUC ‘’is happy to be associated with Odibo’’. The meeting later broke into an informal session with the people coming up with suggestions and strategies on how to win the forthcoming election so that for once, ‘’Udu could have a square peg in a square hole’’.
Those with Odibo on the campaign tour included Chief Henry Sakpra, Chief Ernest Juweto, Chief Joseph Odjeni, Chamber Sikogo, Chief Bayo Odibo, among many others.
