82 Oghara indigenes get certificates for participating in Nollywood film

No fewer than 82 persons, who participated in the making of a Nollywood film at Oghara, the administrative headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, have received certificates of participation.

Commissioner representing Ethiope West, Sapele, Okpe, Uvwie and Urhobo Ethnic Nationality on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Henry Ofa, while presenting the certificates to the participants on behalf of the film directors, said he was glad because of the level of transformation has taken place in all aspects of life in the area, adding that Oghara has become the centre of social activities in the past few months.

He said the Nollywood industry has discovered that the community has a conducive environment for high class entertainment industry to thrive. The DESOPADEC commissioner said that the celebrated Nollywood icons were not only in Oghara to shoot their movie and leave but to inspire the youth in the area, adding that their presence has inspired the youths, noting further that the involvement of the youth in the production of movie has not only brought the best in them, but would spur them to begin to articulate their views in the nation’s creative industry. He said the creative industry holds the great promise for the youth, who were presented with certificates of participation.

Ofa, while commending Tony Akposhere and Dr. Henry Obidi, Nollywood directors, for doing developing the concept, said it was important to note that the concept fell in line with the “Delta Beyond Oil” initiative of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration. He said the initiative was aimed at creating alternative economic platforms for the people of the state given the falling prices of crude oil in the international market.

Ofa stated that the industry offers the teeming youth alternative employment as actors, cameramen or women, script writers, cinematographers, production designers, costumiers, crew members or distribution and marketing executives.
