The people of Oghareki community in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State have appealed to the state government and its agencies such as Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) to come to their rescue by preventing flooding from overrunning their community.
They also want government to provide social amenities for them without delay.
Unugbrogodo of Oghareki community, Chief William Usabor, who spoke to journalists in his country home, lamented the that community has not received government assistance to combat the menace of flooding, asserting that a stranger coming to the community for the first time would wonder if people still lived in the community.
He added that it was unfair for Delta State Government to neglect the community, remarking that the only access road to his compound was in a pitiable condition despite the fact that the people of the community are law-abiding citizens, who have always supported the PDP government by voting massively for it during general elections.
The chief said the community has made a series of appeals to government on the bad state of the only access road leading to the Unugbrogodo compound, adding that the appeals have fallen on deaf ears. The Unugbrogodo noted that apart from bad roads, they lack pipe borne water in the community, appealing that the state government and DESOPADEC should come to their rescue by providing the basic amenities that make life worthwhile for the people to end the suffering of his people.
The Unugbrogodo also appealed to the government to come to their aid in the education sector by reconstructing Uduaka and Udurhie primary schools, which he said have decayed structures and blown off roof tops, explaining that they are afraid of the state of the classroom block in Uduaka and Udurhie primary schools.
“Our children learn under open roof and hazard environment; the borehole at Uduaka Primary School was vandalised because there is no standard fence and gate to prevent the vandals,” stressing that the headmasters of both schools have written several appeal letters through him to the community requesting the community to assist in renovation of the classrooms.
He called on government to come to their aid, saying they cannot provide the facilities themselves without government intervention.
