Patron of the National Association of the Urhobo Students, Alexander Igbinoba, who is also President of All Justice of Peace, Delta State chapter, has enjoined Urhobo people to close ranks, rally round and work for the actualisation of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s governorship aspirations.
Igbinoba, who addressed journalists at Eku, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, said the Urhobo have accommodating spirit and believe in the Nigerian project, adding that they are favoured in terms of wealth distribution in Delta State.
Igbinoba, who is a Peoples Democratic chieftain, said dating back to Olorogun Felix and Chief Ibori’s regime, other tribes worked and accommodated the Urhobo and it is now incumbent on the Urhobo for equity sake to work for Okowa, who is from Delta North Senatorial District, appealing that they should put their house in order.
He urged the umbrella body of the Urhobo (UPU) to supporting the Okowa’s governorship ambition, adding that the Urhobo alone cannot produce the governor without the support of the Delta North and South, especially now that their vote is going to be split between Chief Great Ogboru of Labour Party and Olorogun O’tega Emerhor of the APC.
He averred that the Urhobo have not been able to put their house together by asking one of them to step down for the other.
Igbinoba said what the people should be concerned about is a good governor who can develop the entire Delta State and “not Urhobo man per-say or this tribe or the other”. He said they should bother about the pedigree of the person who can deliver the dividends of democracy to the door steps of Deltans irrespective of the tribe to which the person belongs.
He appealed to sons and daughters of Urhobo to rally round Okowa to realise his vision as Governor of the state.
