Some civil servants in Edo State have faulted the state government’s  selective recall and reinstatement of some of their colleagues, who  got approval for study leave without pay and were affected by the non- payment of pension during the period.

They said that out of the over 200 of those affected and now labeled  beneficiaries by the government’, 13  are still in the lurch, with their fate unknown.

Messrs Peter Imansoloeva and Ehigiegba Benson, who spearheaded a  petition to the state House of Assembly, asking it to prevail on the government to recall the affected persons.

In a statement in Benin City said they were not captured among the beneficiaries of the struggle in which they all fought.

They appealed to the governor to direct the Head of Service (HOS) to  issue recall letters to “those of us who were affected by the non-pension-ability of the period of study leave without pay not yet  restored to service (after retirement in error) so as to be in tandem, equity and pari materia with our lucky earlier mates”.

They also said government should, “take a second look at the issue of  deducting part of the value of the total hard-earned salaries by officers while in active service from their terminal benefit (gratuity) as they were deemed qualified for extension of service within the deadline of 15/2/2010 set by the office of the HOS., had tacit approval to work and got paid”.

It will be recalled that Edo State government in August recalled 227 of those affected in line with a resolution of the state Assembly, which had in July said that all the affected civil servants and teachers be paid.

The state Head of Service,. Mr Jerry Obazele, who was addressin beneficiaries in Benin City, said the delay by the government in implementing the Assembly’s resolution was not meant to victimise or punish any of them but to instill probity and uprightness in the  service.
