Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wellington Hotel, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government area of Delta State, has filed a suit against his late wife’s children, Mrs. Mary Agbonifo (Nee Ogbevire), over property.
The suit, which was filed against his late wife’s children at the Warri South Customary Court with suit number No. WSACC/M/261/2014, prayed the court to include him (Chief Godspower Agbonifo) in the sharing of his late wife’s property.
Among the respondents sued by Agbonifo were Deacon Tony Okene, Paul Okene, Efeturi Okene and Festus Agbonifo and four new generation banks operating in Effurun/Warri, Delta State.
One of the family members of the late wife, Chief Julius Ogbevire, expressed deep shock at the reaction of his late sister’s husband, Agbonifo, who has taken his children to court over his late wife’s property.
Ogbevire said: “This is shocking, as we have not seen this in the entire Urhobo nation where father takes his own children to court to be included in the sharing of his late wife property. I see this as a taboo in Urhobo nation for a title chief to go to that extent.
“There is no part of Urhobo nation that we have heard such narration where a father struggles to be included, using court suit as means to be part of sharing of his late wife’s property, this is appalling and has never be a tradition of Urhobo.”
