The leadership Crisis rocking the Assemblies of God, nationwide came to a head last week when an Enugu High Court presided over by Justice F.C Obieze gave an injunction stopping peniel (national convention) scheduled to hold at Okpoto in Ebonyi State.
It would be recalled that the Stakeholders Forum of the Assemblies of God Church had protested against what they described as the
“unconstitutional” removal of the General Superintendent Reverend Professor Paul Emeka.
The court judgment obtained by the General Superintendent and Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria as plaintiff/Applicants and made available to newsmen in Benin City, Edo State with suit No: E/338/2014, is restraining Reverend Chidi Okoroafor, Reverend John Ikoni, Reverend Vincent Alaje and Reverend Charles Osueke from going ahead peniel. Justice Obieze in his rulling declared, “That an interim injunction is granted to the plaintiffs/ applicants, restraining the defendants/ respondents, their servants, agents and/or privies from acting unlawfully by exercising the power of the 2nd plaintiff/Applications as contained in the constitution of assemblies of God, Nigeria including peniel conference pending the determination of the motion on notice filed in the suit.
“That an order is granted to the plaintiffs/applicants restraining the 4th defendants/respondent who was the general superintendent of Assemblies of God before his retirement from unlawfully interfering in the exercise of the authority of the 2nd plaintiff who is now the General Superintendent of Assemblies pending the determination of motion on notice filed in this suit.”
Meanwhile, it was learnt that on receiving the court order stopping the illegal EC from holding Peniel, the police upheld it as authentic and immediately began to act on it.
Earlier than this time, Chidi and Alaje had requested police presence in the Evangel Camp, Okpoto, but after the presentation of the court order, the policemen stationed there were withdrawn.
