A HIGH Court sitting at Otor-Udu, Udu Local Government Area, Delta State has given a judgment stopping the Delta State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW ) and its branches in the 25 local government areas in the state from collecting dues/levies, molesting, harassing and assaulting drivers and persons in charge of trailers, tippers, lorries, pickups and pickups of members of Otor-Udu and Otu-Jeremi Block Industries Association.
In the judgment delivered by Justice Flora Azinge of Otor-Udu High Court recently, the court also stated that since the defendants, (Delta state chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and its branches in the 25 local government areas in Delta state) contravened sections 3 and 4 of the Collection of Dues in Public Places by Transport Unions (Prohibition) Road Traffic Law Chapter C11 Vol. 1 Laws of Delta State (2006) is liable to pay a fine of N50,000.00 as prescribed by Section 5 of the said law.
