The President of Edo State Baptist Conference, Rev. Frank Ezele, has commended the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin, for his immense support towards the success of its maiden sports festival.

Ezele at the closing ceremony of the sports festival in Benin City also expressed gratitude to the media executive in the state, including the General Manager of The Nigerian Observer, Rev Monday Aigbe and his editors (Matthew Okagha and Barrister Solomon Imohiosen), the Zonal Director of Nigerian Television Authority, Mrs.

Pauline Igbanor and her management team for the coverage of the sporting events.

While thanking other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event, the cleric said the set goal for organising the sports festival was to assist in developing grassroots sports as well develop the vibrant youths in the state.

According to him, “it was an opportunity to identify, showcase and encourage our talented young girls and boys to participate in sports to remove their minds from negative vices and engage them in positive things that can develop their future.

“The sports festival also afforded me the opportunity to remove the mindset of winning at all cost which could culminate in the use of improper influence and ungentlemanly conduct during the games”, he said. Ezele said that despite the financial and logistics challenges, the sports festival at first attempt was successful. In the final match of the under-13 category played at the UNIBEN Sports complex, Paragon Football Club defeated Inneh Football Club by a lone goal.
