The University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) has pledged to collaborate with its alma mater to reposition the institution to an enviable height.
National President, UNAA, Chief Andrew Oru, made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the new UNN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Benjamin C. Ozumba.
Oru, who was accompanied by members of his executive, commended the Vice-Chancellor on his new appointment.
The UNAA boss referred to him (Ozumba) as an ‘epoch-making gentleman who is certainly the personality needed by this institution at this time’.
According to him, the association would collaborate with the University management in the improvement/complete over-hauling of the Information Technology infrastructure; Re-modeling/revamping of the hostel accommodations with an immediate investment in the Ziks flats as a pilot scheme, construction of an Alumni Centre as well as donation of books/awards of scholarship among others.
“The association is ably equipped with the requisite experience to assist in several ways in terms of information flow, human capital, materially and otherwise. We shall offer and dedicate every effort of ours that may be needed by this administration towards the re-establishment of clearly eroded standards and infrastructural development”, he said.
As part of the partnership programme, Chief Oru presented cheques for scholarship to six deserving students of the university from various departments.
The vice-chancellor who was elated welcomed the alumni to UNN, their alma mater. He noted that the alumni of every institution should be the stakeholder of that institution while emphasizing that the recognition of alumni by any institution was the beginning of wisdom.
He also disclosed that his administration would soon lay a foundation stone for the new Senate building.
