Tompolo Foundation has received a major boost as an intervention agency, Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, donated an ambulance to it.
The ambulance is to ease transportation of serious health issues referred from the Okerenkoko Cottage Hospital run by the Foundation.
Commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality in the commission, Kingsley Otuaro, a lawyer, while making the presentation, said the ambulance will assist the hospital serve several riverside communities in Warri South West council of the state.
Besides, the agency also donated a waste disposal truck to Burutu town for the effective clean up of the town.
Otuaro commended the Foundation for keying into the state government programme on healthcare delivery, education and poverty alleviation, noting that the ambulance was in acknowledgment of its efforts.
He pledged that the Commission would continue to render a helping hand to the body to enable it meet its obligation to the public.
He said: “As a commission, we are out to support the three-point agenda of the state government. Tompolo Foundation is assisting the state in the area of health, education and poverty alleviation.
“This donation is to acknowledge and support its effort. There are challenges when referral is made from the Cottage hospital, the ambulance is meant to ease of such problems.
“We will assist them more in the health delivering in the near distance time.”
Responding, Executive Secretary, Tompolo Foundation, Paul Bebenimibo, thanked the Commission and the state government for the gesture, saying that the ambulance would go a long way in saving the lives of people in the communities.
Bebenimibo, however, appealed to the government to focus more attention on rural areas of the state by establishing more health facilities with a view to bringing healthcare closer to the grassroots people.
“We thank DESOPADEC and the state government. It is a fact that Tompolo Foundation is on ground, the ambulance will help us to save more lives.
