The Cross River State government has commenced the distribution of oil palms seedlings, fertilizers and herbicides to farmers in the 18 local government areas of the state.
The distribution is being undertaken by the State Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
At the ceremony to flag-off the distribution at Odukpani Redemption Centre, Head, Growth Enhancement Support (GES), Mrs. Edu Ada Emmanuel, said that one thousand, seven hundred and fifty oil palm farmers across the state have registered to be given the agricultural inputs. Emmanuel tasked the farmers to make effective use of the farming inputs to boost oil palm production in the state.
She told them to be prepared to work in line with the state government’s policies on agriculture.
She told the farmers that with the successful flag-off of the exercise, farmers are entitled to 50 oil palm seedlings, one bag of 50kg fertilizer and one litre of herbicide.
Desk Officer, oil palm production, Mr. Ubana Ubi Bassey, said the exercise was an opportunity for farmers across the state to benefit from the Growth Enhancement Support Scheme of the Federal Government and enjoined them to make good use of the agricultural inputs.
Ubana said that government has subsidised all the agro inputs, so farmers would pay N6,300 for the three items.
